Twitch Hiatus

(Dave wrote this, so sorry for how wordy it is)

To all of our friends and Twitch viewers and followers,

We don’t want to go too far into this with you wondering what’s about to happen, so right away we want you to know that this is not an announcement that we are quitting streaming forever. If anything, this is an announcement of some actions we are taking to improve the future streaming experience for both us and all of you.

After more than 5 years of streaming regularly on Twitch, we have decided to, at least, take the month of April off. We aren’t making this decision lightly, and want you to know that we appreciate our viewers and our community. In fact, we’ve put this off for a long time because, even though we’ve needed it, we didn’t want to disappoint all of you. But we also believe that we need to take this time if we’re going to bring the energy and quality that you deserve.

Over the past 5 years, we have become more and more ambitious and built out a longer and longer list of projects and goals—both personal and creative—that could be a lot of fun for everyone, but never gets any shorter and rarely gets explored.

There is an aspect of streaming that can often be invisible, especially for smaller channels who have to handle everything themselves. A significant amount of time and energy goes into streaming. We don’t feel like we stream as long as we should every week, and yet, when you include setup and breakdown time, we spend 18 hours a week on the channel. That’s like if every typical person who talks about not having enough time to keep up with their responsibilities every week had to also lose every Saturday.

So we are going to take this month to rest, reset, evaluate, and plan. To figure out what we want from the stream moving forward and make sure that whatever form it may take in the future is something that will leave everyone on both sides of the camera feeling satisfied.

We still intend to keep up with our podcasts and other projects, and there may be times during the month when we just suddenly are really in the mood to jump on Twitch and play a game or do a thing and talk to whoever feels like showing up. And if that happens, it’ll be that much more exciting because it’ll mean we have some of that energy and drive and excitement that we’re trying to rebuild with this time off. Then, as the end of the month approaches, we can look at where we stand and make decisions about whether we’re ready to return yet, and what that return looks like.

We both sincerely hope you know that we appreciate the support we’ve received over the years, and want to be able to keep giving back. When everything works and feels good and solid and completed, streaming can be incredibly fun and engaging and that is because of everyone watching. So we look forward to taking this time to get settled on our feet and get back to putting something into the world that we can be truly proud of. We hope you can continue to support and stick with us while we figure out how to do that.
